Hello. This week, we're focusing on the aftermath of an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia, sending tsunami waves into Japan, Hawaii and other parts of the Pacific. Tsunami alerts have also been issued for several other countries, including the Philippines and Ecuador. Separately, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his country will recognise the state of Palestine in September, unless Israel takes "substantive steps" to end its war on Gaza and commits to a lasting peace process. Lastly, we turn to the days-long clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces along their countries' disputed border. The fighting claimed dozens of lives and displaced hundreds of thousands from their homes. The two neighbours have now agreed to a ceasefire but deep-rooted tensions remain. |
